Jake Knowles begins Schaeffer's Southern Nationals

On Friday afternoon Jake Knowles invaded Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) to kick off the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals. Drawing 35 cars for the first race of 12, Knowles edged his way into the opening night feature with the fourth and final transfer position in his heat. Rolling off 16th, Jake was an early retiree from the 53-lap feature on lap 26. He was credited with a 17th place outing.

For the second round on Saturday evening at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.), Jake timed in seventh fastest in his group before placing eighth in his heat. Starting the $10,053-to-win A-Main in 15th, Knowles clawed forward four spots in the 53-lap affair to register an 11th place finish. (Brian McLeod photo | Dirt Scenes)
