Pair of ninth place finishes to open Winter Nationals at East Bay

Picking back up with the Crate Racin’ USA Winter Series, Jake Knowles made the trek to East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) on Thursday afternoon to kick off the three-day Winter Nationals. With 78 cars on hand, Jake timed in third fastest in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat behind Mark Whitener. Locked into the ninth-starting position for the $2,500-to-win A-Main, Knowles was running as high as third but a slipped back after a late-race restart to finish ninth. On Friday night for the second round, Knowles grabbed the second and final transfer spot in his heat race behind Tom Fiebelkorn, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the feature. With $2,500 on the line, Jake clawed forward three spots in the 30-lap affair to register a ninth-place finish.

For the final night of the Winter Nationals on Saturday, Jake edged his way into the $5,000-to-win finale with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 15th, Knowles had worked his way into the Top-10 and was building momentum until his motor began to overheat, forcing him to pull off on lap 33.
